River Aire

This length of water is the last section of the River Calder before it runs in to the River Aire above Castleford and is a total length of 1500 yards. This part of the river very deep and slow moving - 35 yards wide and 20 feet deep. Access can be made at the top or half way down the length. From the top you can walk through the boat yard which is next to the bridge on the A639 between Methley and Castleford. You can park closer to the river at the middle point access. This is at the end of Pottery Street, which is off the A6032 Methley Road. Main species include roach, perch, bream, pike and gudgeon.
