River Calder

This stretch of water is 1500 yards long and is the last piece of the River Calder before it joins the River Aire above Castleford. This section of the river is 35 yards broad and 20 feet deep, and it moves slowly. The top or halfway down the length can be accessed. You may walk around the boat yard close to the A639 bridge between Methley and Castleford from the top. At the middle point access, you may park closer to the river. This is on the A6032 Methley Road, near the end of Pottery Street. Roach, perch, bream, pike, and gudgeon are the most common species.
