Hawkhurst - Main Lake

Hawkhurst Fish Farm Hastings Road Hawkhurst Kent TN18 4RT

This beautiful 4-acre Carp and Catfish specimen lake is well-known as one of Kent and Sussex's best and most prolific day ticket big fish places. With Common and Mirror carp weighing in at over 40 pounds and Catfish weighing in at over 80 pounds, this lake is not for the faint of heart! The following anglers now hold Lake records: Paul Brown caught a 39lb 2oz Mirror in February 2019, Simon Mehegan got a 41lb 10oz Common in May 2021, and Dave Leftley snagged an 84lb Catfish in August 2019!

The lake is well-established, with appealing characteristics such as reed-lined margins, many islands, two bridges, and several underwater features, providing fishermen with a diverse range of targets. The lake's bottom is clay, with silty portions and an average depth of 5 feet. The deepest depth is roughly 10 feet near the outflow, and Catfish Corner around swims 5 and 6 contains deeper water that frequently houses some of our larger catfish. Because the water around the islands is shallow (about 1.5 feet), it's worth looking for the bottom of the island shelf, which drops to roughly 4-5 feet. Because the fish utilize these margins as patrol routes, it's worth putting a bait near them. The banks are gravel-lined, making access simple even in bad weather. There is parking nearby, so you won't have to lug your stuff far.

Strong tackle is required, and there are minimum tackle criteria. To aid handle such enormous fish, a 42-inch specimen landing net and large unhooking mat are required, as well as a minimum of 15-pound breaking strain mainline. Please visit the regulations section for additional information about tackle requirements. This lake has 14 swims, however we only let 11 fishermen on at a time, and two rods are allowed to decrease angling pressure.
