Perch Pond

Warren Road, Wanstead, E11 2LT, London, United Kingdom

Perch pond must have one of the greatest
names of all fishing venues in the UK. The pond is stocked with a wide
selection of coarse fish - despite what the name suggests!

How busy does it get and would it be ideal for granddaughter to start fishing on.

Hi Noel, I live near here. Some of the photos are hard to correlate and I think some of the later ones are for somewhere else. I occasionally see some people fishing here but have never seen anyone catch anything (in 5 years or so..) I think it's like so many similar lakes these days - used to be full of fish but now have very few or none at all. I think there maybe some carp and I'm sure I've seen some fish swimming around in perch pond and also in some of the ornamental lakes just around the corner from PP but never known any to be caught (I'll often ask the rare anglers fishing here if they've caught anything..) To answer your question specifically, it doesn't get bust at all (max 3 anglers at any one time in my experience) and I would say that it's a good place to learn some of the basics - like setting up and casting (and patience, given the unlikelihood of much 'action' on your bait.) I've taken my 3 youngsters (2 girls and a boy between 3 & 8 years old) for an hour or two's fishing there and they loved it but we didn't get a bite between us the whole time we were there. It's quite shallow (and therefore fairly safe) and on a sunny day it's generally a nice enough place to be. So, in summary, fine for a first or second go, but there is a risk of putting them off the sport due to a lack of excitement.. Hope that helps, Jon
