Ifield Mill Pond is regarded as the most significant wetland location in Crawley, despite being bordered by huge tracts of recreational grassland. Along the pond edges and to the south-east along Dowster Brook are patches of woods.
Coot, duck, mute swan and grey wagtail are just a few of the many species of birds that nest on this vast pond. Many different kinds of duck make winter appearances, and on rare occasions, kingfishers, herons, and water rail may also be observed.
Every day from 7.30 am to sunset, excluding days when the area is closed or when fishing is prohibited by the council, fishing is allowed.
Every fisherman has to have a current rod licence from the Environment Agency, which may be acquired online or at the post office.
