Fisher Tarn Reservoir

Kendal, LA9 6, Cumbria, United Kingdom

This is quite a large reservoir to the east of Kendal holding stocked rainbow and brown trout. The brown trout are introduced as fingerlings and grown on fish are regularly taken. The fishing is controlled by the Fisher Tarn Angling Association and is strictly fly only. This is a small club and there is usually a waiting list for membership although limited day permits are available. Stock densities are not high and it does pay to keep on the move and cover new water. During the summer months algal blooms can be a nuisance and the water fishes best early and late in the season. From Kendal take the A684 Sedbergh road. Cross over the railway then take the second minor road on the left (1.5 miles), stay left and follow this road until the dam can be seen on your right. Day permits are available from Kendal Sports in Kendal.

Why has a padlock been put on the gate entrance? Are people no welcome to walk around the tarn?

I think this is a hot potato at the mo. Seems to be a bit of a thing with angling club and public right of way. I believe local politicians are getting in on the act. I got a rude rebuff from some guy when I went up for a look. Hadn't gone in or anything and told me I was trespassing, I was on private land and to get going. Keen to see how this pans out.
