Sparks Farm Pond

East Cowton, Northallerton, DL7 0, Yorkshire, United Kingdom

A lot of effort has gone into creating a lovely peaceful fishery in beautiful farmland. There is a good stocking policy over the 3 ponds and it has been designed to offer year round sport. Thought has gone into providing an easily accessible fishery for all. The banks are very flat with purpose made pegs on all three ponds. Anglers with disabilities are allowed to drive their cars to behind the pegs and they also have a disabled peg able to take a wheelchair. There is a club house with seating where bait for both fish and fishermen is available. There is a balcony where you can sit and enjoy the views over the lakes and a wood fire to warm you in the colder months. There are also three static caravans available to book for those who want to stay longer or have travelled.
All the 3 lakes have a marginal shelf and maturing beds of either reeds or rushes at either side of the pegs. All of the waters range from between 4 and 12 foot in depth. The water as expected does hold good colour at most times of the year, assisting with presentation.
The first pond that you will see on entering the car park is probably the largest of the 3 at an acre and a half. It has a number of islands that make good targets for the feeder or bomb.
Adjacent is the next water named Pond 2, of a similar size to the first the water also has a couple of islands to target. In terms of fish size this pool does tend to have the larger of the stocked fish into it. The bottom end of this lake can offer sheltered fishing from the wind when it does get up.
The final water known as Pond 3, it is the smallest at about half an acre, and it is stocked slightly different to the other two, with it featuring perch and gudgeon. It is a cracking water to get a new person to the sport on, as it will guarantee bites if a small hook and maggots are used.
