Roundhay Park Lake

Park Avenue, Roundhay, LS8 2, Leeds, United Kingdom

This is another Leeds City council run water that is set within a large public park. It is run by Leeds DASA. The Lake is called Waterloo Lake, it is about 15 acres in size and has suffered with water loss over the recent years. The water level can still rise and fall, but is generally at a good level. The bottom is predominantly clay / stone, so the water always tends to carry a fair bit of colour. There is an onsite cafe that sells the tickets with toilet facilities. The nearest pegs to the cafe offer hard standing and as such they are suitable for anglers with disabilities.
The main target here are the bream, which run up to the 6-7 lb mark. The shoals if found can keep you occupied for quite a while. The roach have also grown to a decent size, with the better fish falling to caster, with better fish to the pound and half mark. There are a number of pike present to 20lb, with carp and tench as well to 20lb and 5lb respectively. Finally there are perch to just short of 3lb and a small number of chub to a similar size.
The biggest problem again with this water is the either park users, and their dogs. The pegs nearest the cafe also get a lot of walkers going by, and if you want peace and quiet without interruptions don't fish here.
At weekends the number of times you get the annoying question can be unbearable. Also it is good to avoid the school holidays, as the kids tend to get bored by dinnertime and start chucking each other in. If fishing towards dusk it may also be wise to fish with someone else, as tackle thefts have taken place.
There is an upper lake near to the Mansion hotel, but this used as a stock pond and a nature reserve with no fishing allowed.
