Whins Pond

Edenhall, CA11 8, Cumbria, United Kingdom

The area around Penrith is not blessed with many coarse fisheries which means that Whins Pond is a very popular venue for pleasure, match and specimen hunter alike.
The fishery comprises a large scenic lake split into two sections by a net. The coarse section covers about 8 acres and has 30 pegs and is well stocked with tench, bream, carp and roach. The fish grow to good size with bream recorded at 14lb and carp to 20lb+.
The lake has plenty of features such as overhanging trees and water lily beds and is permanently pegged with comfortable platform style swims.
Small roach can prove a nuisance on maggot and most of the better fish fall to caster and chopped worm. The tench and bream respond well to sweetcorn. Feeder is another popular method but generally the water is best approached with a pole. There is a good depth beyond 4 metres off most pegs and big bream and tench often patrol close in.
Whins Pond takes match bookings and regular matches are held by the fishery management.
Permits are available on site.

Carp to 20lb
